Bali is one of the most romantic wedding and honeymoon destinations there is. If you’ve never been, it can be a little daunting to know exactly what to pack.
To help take a little stress out of the big day, let’s have a look at some of the things we highly recommend you bring for your destination wedding and honeymoon in Bali.
Regardless of the time of year, Bali is always hot, so you’ll want to pack a handful of light clothes. Sun dresses are perfect – they’re light, comfortable and take up minimal space in your luggage.
Shirts & singlets, shorts & skirts
From the pre-wedding rush right through to your honeymoon, there are going to be times where you just want to be comfortable.
As the bride and groom, you don’t have to be looking sharp the whole time, save that for the big day. And besides, you’ll likely want to get out and explore the sights which definitely begs something light and comfy.
Long dresses or pants
Bali has many ancient temples and religious sites you can visit. In respect for their customs, it’s recommended that you wear something a little more conservative when exploring these locations.
If you’re holding both your wedding and honeymoon in Bali, chances are you’ll be heading out for dinner and drinks most nights. Before you leave home, pick out at least a few nice evening dresses and rotate them throughout your stay.
You might be thinking, “why on earth would I need a scarf in such a tropical country?”
Light scarves are a great substitute for a skirt (think sarong), to wrap around you if there’s a breeze, and are great for covering up some skin when heading to the temples. They also take up practically no space in your luggage, so that’s a win-win.
Regardless of where you hold your wedding, you’re never far from a swimming pool or beach in Bali. If you’ve snagged a private villa, you’ll also have your own pool to enjoy throughout your stay.
With the weather remaining at a consistent level of ‘hot’ all year round, we recommend taking at least a few different swimsuits to splash around in over the course of your stay.
Wedding dress & groom’s suit
The most important item of all – your wedding clothes!
Make sure to protect your dress in a carry bag for the journey over to Bali and try to avoid getting it squished in your luggage.
It’s also a good idea to book it in for a steam when you get there to remove any creases it might have acquired on the voyage.
Thongs / flip flops
From the resort pool at the beach club to the beach, the bar and beyond, thongs are a must-have for any trip to Bali. Easy to kick off and light enough to throw in your beach bag when you’re lazing on the sand.
Running / walking shoes
While you might not get that much site seeing done before you wedding, your honeymoon will undoubtedly be full of scenic walks and activities around the island.
For this, we highly recommend some comfy walking or running shoes that won’t give you blisters if you’re out and about all day long.
Of course, you want to look gorgeous on your special day, and a stunning pair of heels will help complete your look.
But don’t go overboard – there are limited places in Bali where heels are the best option for footwear. And if you’re having a beach wedding, you might consider whether you need to bring heels at all.
At the most, pick one beautiful pair for your wedding ceremony – we guarantee they’ll barely get worn.
From the rehearsal dinner through to your post-wedding celebration, high-heels are not always the best fit for a bride – especially if she’s having a few champagnes.
Get one of your bridesmaids to hang on to a nice pair of sandals or strappy flats so you can slip them on when the heels start to hurt (and ladies, we all know they will)!
Shampoo & conditioner
Depending on where you’re staying, you might want to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and bodywash. However, most luxury accommodation like Hotel Komune will offer boutique amenities for you to use throughout your stay (in reusable bottles, even).
Not all wedding accommodation will include essentials like a toothbrush, so it’s best to play it safe. Yes, you can go and buy one when you arrive but it’s much easier to stash one in your toiletries bag just in case.
If you forget, no worries. We provide them for our guests!
Deodorant & perfume
Hot climates unfortunately mean sweat and body odour. As the special couple, you’ll already be attracting enough attention, so make sure to keep yourselves smelling gorgeous when out and about in Bali.
Makeup is another thing you probably won’t use too often on your wedding and honeymoon in Bali – with the exception of your big day.
If you’re planning your big day at a wedding destination like Hotel Komune, we have a range of spa treatments and wedding makeup services to have you covered for the important dates.
Aside from that, we recommend bringing only a light foundation with SPF and minimal bronzers / eye-make up. They’ll just take up space and are likely to sweat straight off your face!
Nausea / diarrhoea tablets
While we all hope it won’t happen, the last thing you want is for sickness to dampen your dream wedding in Bali. As a precaution, pack some nausea and diarrhoea tablets just in case the unthinkable happens.
Bali is surrounded by water and has a very humid climate which is the perfect place for mosquitos and other bugs.
Unless you want to spend your wedding night scratching bites, pack yourself an insect repellent and remember to use it whenever you go out.
Whether it be dehydration from the sun, sickness or a little too much alcohol, electrolytes are a godsend for people who need to power through the day.
Hand sanitiser is another really great addition to your Bali checklist to avoid getting sick on your wedding or honeymoon. Use it before eating or drinking – even if you’ve already washed your hands.
Sunglasses & a hat
Most people choose to have a wedding in Bali for the gorgeous natural scenery, ocean views and year-round summer sun. For this reason, packing some sunnies and a hat is absolutely essential.
While you’ll probably have a professional photographer on the ground for your wedding day, there is so much to see and do in Bali that you’ll really want to capture as much as you can.
Even if your phone camera is up to scratch, it’s nice to bring a professional-quality camera with you to snap all the amazing sites throughout your trip.
If you’re bringing electronics like a phone, camera or laptop, you’ll need to purchase an adapter to be able to plug it into the sockets in Bali.
Staying at Komune? We’ve got you covered – all our rooms are fitted with international adapters.
